Dear Grappler,
Here are some
questions that you NEED to ask yourself and answer with
EVERY ounce of honesty you have within your body. Do you:
- Feel "stuck" in your grappling
training because you’re not sure if you should be training to defend
yourself or win a sport competition?
- Have a burning desire to develop your
self-defense, but your
instructor or coach is more concerned about getting everyone ready
for the next tourney?
- Lack self-confidence or get nervous when a
potential self-defense situation might occur in your everyday life
because you know you can’t defend yourself or your loved ones?
- Wish someone gave you a proven
grappling self-defense plan that's simple and guaranteed to work,
giving you the self-confidence in knowing that you can protect
yourself and your loved ones if a real situation threatened their
safety?
I struggled with the
same questions that you’re dealing with right now. In fact, there's
a good chance my challenges were FAR bigger than yours
because I was a “black belt” in the martial arts.
And after 23 years of
training and teaching different martial arts (kung fu, boxing, Muay Thai,
BJJ, and military Hand-to-Hand Combat) I can tell you beyond any doubt
that most of what is being taught today in sports grappling
schools, seminars and videos... just won't work in a real street attack.
Now, before you think
I’m just being a “hater”, let me say that I don’t have a
problem with anyone making money in the sports grappling
industry. In fact, I produce sports grappling products
myself.
But for the past few
years, I’ve been slowly watching grappling self-defense morphed
into a “fun” sport activity that’s put less emphasis on being able to
defend yourself each year.
The issue I do have is
that MILLIONS of grappling students around the world are
showing up for BJJ/Judo/Sambo/Submission Wrestling Classes 5-6 days a
week… but don’t know how to:
- Throw
a punch, elbow, knee or where to bite someone
- Get out of the way of being punched
- Know
how to keep from being sucker punched or how to throw one
- Think it’s going to be easy to apply some
fancy takedown and joint lock against someone that’s probably pissed
and not cooperating like your partners do at the gym
- Distinguish
between the “rule set” for sport and self-defense situations,
causing them to label things as “fair” and “unfair” tactics
And to support the
sports grappling phenomena, there’s a truckload of sports grappling
instructional products on the market to help them become just that… better
sports grapplers that can’t fight!
Think about it… what good
is it learning a flying triangle when you can’t fight?
Crazy.
Fortunately, there are
a few instructors and coaches that do create self-defense products for
the masses.
Unfortunately, most
tend to throw as many techniques on a DVD under the guise of “showing
you how to deal with every situation”, leading you to think that
more technique is always better.
That’s fine, but it
makes you wonder:
- How much detail can you put into showing
30+ techniques in an instructional package
- How many techniques can the student focus
on at one time trying to gain some level of proficiency if there are
so many and not given over time
- How do you insert “student feedback” into
the instructional product when the techniques are being talked
directly into a camera, not to beginner students that are making
mistakes, asking lots of questions, and needing more detail to
execute properly
- How do you keep from giving too many
self-defense techniques, which looks cool sitting on your DVD shelf,
but hard to master to save your bacon when the time comes
You pointed out the
problem… now what’s The Solution?
The solution was
developing a self-defense grappling system that: contained the following
benefits:
- Simple enough for students to learn
quickly
- Effective, regardless of the body type of
the attacker
- Addresses real “street"
situations" instead of “sports” situations
- Easy to understand and implement from video-based training
That’s the approach
that I made sure to follow when I created the OG Self-Defense Concept, a functional
“self-defense library” that could be quickly viewed, easily practiced,
and executed by all grapplers, regardless of your size, strength or
gender.
Let’s face it: it’s
virtually impossible to cover every self-defense situations thoroughly on
just 1 or 2 DVDs.
I know it sounds good
for marketing purposes, but not if you’re hoping that your students will
be able to learn and really apply the techniques you’re teaching them.
Experience has
taught me that students do better with learning new self-defense material
in stages (unarmed, using weapons, armed attacks), not by trying to cram a whole bunch of
different techniques down their throat at one time.
Too much information
can be just as deadly as not enough information!
And some instructors
(like me) choose to teach a little from each at one time to ensure
students grasp a few concepts before pushing more advanced ones on them
to master.
Many would argue that
my approach is wrong, but I’m convinced that’s the best way to teach them
and the approach that I took when I created “OG Self-Defense”
Concept.
What in the heck is
OG Self-Defense 101?
“OG Self-Defense
101” deals with the beginner
stage of self-defense (basic unarmed situations) that gives the student a
good base to resolve most common self-defense situations to occur (e.g.
like fighting over a parking space at a store that you see on “whacky
videos” type of TV shows all the time)
And just like my other
“OG Clinic” Products for sport grappling, “OG Self-Defense 101”
will build the grappler into a well-rounded martial artist, capable
of defending themselves in self-defense situations
Imagine never
having to suffer…
- Being scared and worried that you can’t
take care of a situation when you’re out with your family
- Getting “sucker punched” in front of
friends and doing nothing about it
- Being embarrassed in front of your friends
and family because you spend all that time and money “rolling on the
ground” and still can’t fight
- Questioning your “manhood” (or womanhood) because
you’re incapable of protecting your loved ones that view you as
their “protector”
The information
contained in the first installment of “OG Clinic 4 (OG Self-Defense
101) is designed to eliminate those fears and gives you the assurance
and self-confidence to deal with those situations as they occur.
I
know…you probably think I'm a little crazy.
But if you suspend
your skepticism just a little longer, read every single word of this message, and
accept my risk-free challenge, I guarantee you’ll notice an immediate
difference in your ability (and confidence) to defend yourself and your
family on the street in less than 30 days!
And just in case you don’t know who I
am, my name is Paul Greenhill
(aka The Wise Grappler), the #1 Grappling Authority for the Older and
Recreational Grappler and the creator of the…
“OG Clinic 4: OG Self Defense 101”
Package

The “OG
Clinic 4 (OG Self-Defense 101) Package” consist of the:
- OG
Self-Defense 101 Instructional DVDs
- OG
Self-Defense 101 Quick Start Audio CD
- “10 Reasons Why
Sports Grappling Loses on the Street” Audio CD
- “10 Reasons
Why Sports Grappling Loses on the Street” Manual
Component #1: OG
Self-Defense 101 DVDs – These
two DVDs contain all technical and mindset foundation components of the
OG Self-Defense Concepts. And
since it’s being taught in front of a live group, there’s plenty of
student-teacher interaction to offer positive feedback and opportunities
to correct “common beginner mistakes” during the training session. (Valued
at $69)
Component #2: OG
Self-Defense 101 Quick Start CD
– Need a heads-up on how the techniques on the DVDs were structured or
the technical and motivational flow behind them? It’s hard to
figure that out unless you hear about it before you look at the DVDs and
that’s exactly what I do on my quick start CDs. Trust me; this is
more than just a CD telling you to “put the DVD in the player and push
play.” (Valued at $39)
Component #3: “10
Reasons Why Sports Grappling Loses on the Street” Audio CD -.Did you know that people use sports
grappling in real fights? Fortunately for some, luck’s on their
side and they survive their foolish mistake. Unfortunately, some
get hurt and those stories don’t get told enough. Listen to this CD
and find out why you shouldn’t risk your safety on the streets doing
techniques that were designed for a padded floor, not the parking lot.
(Valued at $39)
Component #4: “10
Reasons Why Sports Grappling Loses on the Street” Audio CD Manual - Look, there’s a lot of
material on this CD and I know that some grapplers prefer to read
the material before and after they play the CD for maximum benefit.
This audio transcript makes it quick and easy to do… just follow along
while you listen to the CDs and mark up the places you want to come back
to so you can review it at your leisure. (Valued at $19)
And
the good news is all of these self-defense and mindset techniques are
simple and easy to implement.
These OG Self-Defense
101 Techniques Could Cause Your Self-Confidence to Skyrocket
In
fact, I would say the “OG Self-Defense 101” Concepts can be easily
implemented in your grappling self-defense toolbox, making an immediate
impact in your ability to defend yourself in less than 2 weeks, 30 days
max!
Like
I said before, they ARE that simple.

PLUS: A Few More
Tips TOO Good To Even Hint At...
Think about it. By
combining just a few of these self-defense strategies, you can finally
and easily become technically and mentally prepared to deal with some of
the most common street situations.
Sound good? You bet
it does...
Here's
the big idea. You don't have to waste your time or money taking all
those private self-defense lessons outside of your instructor’s sports
grappling curriculum.
Just
do what I did because it works!

‘real life’ useful knowledge. Awesome stuff. We are all taught the
gentlemanly art of grappling. We need to know how to apply it in street
survival mode. You give us what we need to know to survive. You are
the man, who else is going to tell you to bite your opponent—–no one!
Damn, sometimes you just have to be ‘dirty’ to survive.

Hey Paul,
I've been a certified
Krav Maga instructor and I'm a long-time martial artist and I can
certainly see the value in what you're teaching. Good and practical
stuff! You're right. There are no rules in a street fight. Once
biting, eye gouging and groin punching (or, worse, grabbing) come into
play, sport martial arts have to be adapted if you plan to use them for
real self-defense. And a person fights like they train, so that
adaptation had better not first be considered under fire. I will say
that 99 out of 100 times, you should just walk away. I read somewhere
once that a good test of whether or not you should be in the fight is
if you can exactly and honestly state the situation and what lead up to
it and then finish with, "so I ripped out his eye," and not
sound like a psychopath. If some one is trying to kill or maim you or a
member of your family then taking out his eye is perfectly justifiable.
Doing it to a neighbor at a cookout because he insulted you or even
slapped you probably isn't. Still, there are times when a person needs
to defend himself with less than lethal force. And, even when lethal
force or permanent damage is called for, it seems that these techniques
will help. I'm looking forward to getting a copy of the course.

Fantastic job, Paul! Thanks very much for the
time and effort that goes into posting these videos; they are a Godsend
as I’ve very little time to get to the gym because of my long work
hours. Great food for thought, straight to the point and very well
articulated. Thanks again, I look forward to the next one!

Paul – thanks for demonstrating the techniques. I like the part
where you get out of the mount and stand up to either continue
defending yourself our better yet walking
away. Street fights are uncontrolled and you never know what other
things can come into play (i.e. guns, knives, family members).

I was trapped in that martial arts mindset for a number of years
myself. On the street, there are no rules, there is only violence. You
have to strike first and be prepared to
disable or kill in order to save yourself or your loved ones. Glad
to have Paul teaching a class like this. If it’s only half as classy as
his other programs, then it’s a “must have” in your DVD collection!

Sport BJJ has its
place, but it does not prepare you for the street"
Dewey Cooper Says:
January
30th, 2010 at 5:00 am
This is really an aspect that all schools need to address
in order to be credible. BJJ really exposed a lot of the other martial
arts as being ineffective in a fight, but too many schools then turn
around and only teach or spar ’sport’ jiu-jitsu. Sport BJJ has its
place, but it does not prepare you for the street. If a student is
taking your BJJ class for self-defense or MMA, then the coach needs to
present and spar with that in mind. This is really a good idea, and
actually a return to the pure roots of Brazilian\Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Keep
it up.

Brilliant Paul!
I was lucky enough to be a part of Peyton Quinn’s RMCAT courses back
in the 90’s. He was adamant that sport rules don’t exist in the street.
As a bouncer and Harley guy, he has been in and seen hundreds of
altercations.
Well, I’m a 49 year old who started grappling 3 months ago and my
frustration with the mindset is boiling over. Nobody responds to my
questions about being sucker punched, blindsided or attacked by
multiple opponents. They just say, “well that wouldn’t be fair.” I’d
rather be alive than fair!
